Buttock Enlargment

Since its early beginnings, plastic surgery has always tried to highlight the appearance and shape of the buttocks, the ultimate sensual part of women’s bodies along with the breasts. Liposuction usually provides a better shape if needed. On the other hand, the buttock lift is a technique that corrects ptosis and laxity due to weight loss and aging. However, buttock enlargement surgery is a technique used to highlight this part of the body (Brazilian buttocks) and render the female shape more seductive.

The main technique used in buttock enlargement is placing silicone implants. Those are placed through a small incision within the buttock crease, so it becomes indiscernible in a short while. The procedure is performed with general anesthesia or an epidural and the patient is placed in the prone position. The procedure lasts approximately 2 hours. An elastic compression garment is worn immediately after surgery. This should be kept on for a month and can only be removed for the patient to have a shower. In addition, patients are advised to restrict their movements and avoid bending during the first month. The surgery is not painless and painkillers are necessary for the first ten days. Complications are rare and these may include splitting of the wound; infection, which dictates the removal of the implant and revision surgery at least a month later; and the development of seroma, which usually heals itself.

Another technique in buttock enlargement is fat transplantation. The technique is practically painless, without the previously-known complications, and more functional and natural, as it does not involve foreign bodies. Furthermore, it improves other parts of the body through liposuction. Fat transplantation requires an adequate amount of fat from other parts of the patient’s body. Unfortunately, part of the transplanted fat is absorbed by the body and the technique needs to be repeated to supplement the volume. The percentage of fat absorption depends on the technique employed by the surgeon and his experience overall. New scientific suggestions have been put forward regarding the transplantation of stem-cell-enriched fat; however, these also have advantages and disadvantages. In any case, the technique employed has to be assessed according to each individual patient.
